Self Reflection Questions to Answer in Your Passion Planner to Become Your Best Self

Self Reflection Questions to Answer in Your Passion Planner to Become Your Best Self

Self reflection is something that can be very beneficial in becoming your best self, or the person you have always wanted to be. It’s very easy to get caught up in our daily lives, and become unaware of how our actions are affecting our future selves. Now, what’s the best way to self reflect? One word for you: JOURNALING.

Now you may think, “What? Why wouldn’t I just buy a journal?” Well, you’re both saving money using the planner you already own and tracking all of your personal growth and development in the same place. Our Passion Planners encourage us to not only organize our entire lives, but also to become the best version of ourselves. The journaling tasks below are not your typical “Dear Diary” entries. These are designed to help you become more self-aware, and to look at your life from a different perspective. By answering these self reflection questions, you’ll take a step back and analyze where you are in your life now, what’s important to you, and what’s holding you back from where you dream of being. There are 5 categories and a total of 47 questions. I encourage you to do one category a day for a total of 5 days.

Day 1: How to Change Habits

Coffee mug animation asking "Thinking of your future self, what habits do they have?"

On the left side of a blank page in the back of your Passion Planner, make a list of all of the habits that are not serving you. For example, I could write “Checking social media right when I wake up.” When you’re creating your list of bad habits, ask yourself: “What am I doing daily that is not helping me become the best version of myself?” Sometimes, we don’t even realize that our habits in our daily lives are negatively affecting our future selves. Take a step back and think about your daily life, what does your morning/night time routine look like? Write down any bad habit that comes to mind, no matter how big or how small.

Once you have a list of all of the bad habits, make a list of what habit you can replace it with. Write this on the right side directly across from the bad habit. Completely erasing a bad habit is tough, but when you replace it with something that will end up serving you, you will be rewarded in the long run. For example, I could right “Meditate for 5 minutes” across from my bad habit. Then I would write in my daily schedule to meditate for 5 minutes every morning. This exercise can be very eye opening. Sometimes we don’t even realize our bad habits, because they are second- hand to us. I encourage you to take a step back and look at your daily life from an outsider’s perspective, what would you want to change? You have the POWER to create new habits for yourself.

Questions to Ask Yourself About Your Habits

  • What motivates me to keep up with a habit?
  • When I want to quit, what can I tell myself to get me back on track?
  • How do you think some of your bad habits were formed?
  • Thinking of your future self, what habits do they have?
  • How can you incorporate habits of the person you want to become in your daily life now?
  • What habits are you proud of?
  • How are you going to incorporate these new habits without getting overwhelmed?
  • What can you reward yourself with for completing your new daily habits?

Passion Planner also has a FREE Habit Tracker PDF you can download. This tracker will help you make these habits become concrete in your daily life. I highly encourage you to download it!

Day 2: How to Reach Your Goals

Skateboard animation going from right to left with reflection prompt: "Is what I'm doing in my daily life bringing me closer or farther away from my goals?"

I define a goal in two ways. The first definition is something that I know I can achieve. For this goal, there is a simple process and a clear path on how to achieve it. The second definition is a goal that makes you a little uncomfortable, because you’re not quite sure it’s something you can accomplish.  This goal will probably be something that doesn’t have a clear path, and might need more time to accomplish compared to the first definition. It’s important to reflect on your goals because of how easy it is to get stuck in a routine. Once we take a step back and get off auto-pilot, we can analyze how our actions in our daily lives are going to affect our futures. Once you have finished this section, I encourage you to go back to your Weekly Planner and write actionable steps into your daily schedule.

Reflective Questions About Achieving Your Goals

  • Is what I’m doing in my daily life bringing me closer or farther away from my goals?
  • Am I happy with how I spend my time?
  • What steps can I take to get closer to where I want to be in the future?
  •  What is one goal that scares me?
  • What is one goal I am confident in?
  • Am I excited about my goals?
  • What is one goal I can accomplish this week?
  • How can I make sure I stay on track towards achieving my goals?
  • When I want to quit, what am I going to tell myself to get me to stay motivated?
  • How many times a year am I going to check in with my progress on my goals?
  • Who am I going to share my goals with to help keep my accountable?

Day 3: Managing Money

Animation with two hands below a spinning coin with journal prompt, "What have you learned about money so far?"

How did you react when you saw the word “Money”? Think about it. If you got excited, why? If you cringed, why?

There is no shame in multiple side hustles! The following prompts are designed to get you thinking about your passion projects. Is there something you’re passionate about that could make you some money? If you’re not happy with your current main stream of income, how can you start your passion project? I’ve found that I am way happier and more motivated when I’m doing what I love.

Introspective Questions About Your Finances

  • Are you happy with the ways you spend money?
  • What could you cut back on?
  • How many streams of income do you currently have?
  • What else could you do to create more?
  • Do you forgive myself for past money mistakes?
  • What have you learned about money so far?
  • What are your  parents’ views on money? Did they influence yours?
  • How can you start practicing gratitude for the money you do have?
  • What are you going to tell yourself to avoid spending money in your savings account?
  • How are you going to stop yourself from being influenced by others to spend?

If you need help developing a budgeting routine, read this post on how to take actionable steps towards your finance goals.

Day 4: Finding Your Purpose in Life

Animation of sun rising over the mountains with quote "A Beautiful Day to Start Saving." Followed by reflection question, "What kind of legacy do you want to leave?"

I believe that our purpose and our passions go hand in hand. Our passions are the things we care about most, and our purpose is how we use those passions to create our own happiness, as well as creating an inspiring community for others. Self introspection can play a huge role in finding your purpose. It’s defined as examining your own thoughts and feelings, and looking in on your own mental state.

Taking a step back and examining what motivates you, inspires you, or when you feel the most alive can all give you clues to finding your true purpose. Navigating through life with a sense of purpose can help you achieve your goals easier, as well as finding happiness in your daily life.

Speaking from personal experience, I’ve felt lost and unmotivated a few times. I do think that your purpose is going to change and evolve with how you grow over time. It was during those “lost” moments that I felt my purpose shifting. This is how we grow. Finding your purpose can feel scary, maybe even intimidating, but I encourage you to answer these questions with no judgement. These are just peeling back the first layer on the onion I call “Purpose.”

Questions for Self Reflection About Your Purpose

  • What do you feel your purpose is? Family, life, career?
  • Why are you here?
  • What do you want to be remembered for?
  • What kind of legacy do you want to leave?
  • What were you doing when you felt the most alive?
  • What are you motivated by?
  • What are you willing to sacrifice for?
  • Who inspires you?
  • What stories inspire you?
  • If you feel that you are currently not living your purpose, how are you going to transition so you are?
  • Who can you talk to when you feel lost?
  • What fears do I need to manage?
  • What do I want to become?

Now, review your answers and create actionable steps in your weekly schedule to connect with your purpose, while using each day to create the legacy you want to leave.

Day 5: Living Your Truth

The ultimate form of self-care is celebrating ourselves. We can do face masks and sit in bubble baths all day, but if we can’t be kind to ourselves when we look in the mirroris that really self-care? So, to end these five days of self reflection, I want you to write down:

  • 3 things you like about yourself
  • 3 things you’re proud of
  • 3 things that make you happy
  • 3 affirmations you’ll tell yourself when feeling down
  •  A list of people you’re grateful for

Did you struggle thinking about what you liked about yourself? It’s great to always want to do better and be better, but when was the last time you stopped and celebrated everything you have accomplished? The more we celebrate ourselves, the more it trains our minds to be kinder to ourselves. And the more we are kinder to ourselves, the more we are kinder to others. This is one small step to creating a better community, and it starts with YOU.

“No one is you, and that is your power.”
