Feeling Stuck? Try This Mid-Year Reset Strategy.

Feeling Stuck? Try This Mid-Year Reset Strategy

Sometimes the middle of the year sneaks up on us. The pep in our step that kicked us off in January may have turned to a laboring trudge, and our once-fresh goals can start to feel out of reach. If your momentum has slowed or your direction feels unclear, know that you're not alone. This point in the year is an opportunity, not a setback. With a bit of reflection and a few intentional steps, you can reset your mindset, reclaim your energy, and reconnect with what matters most.

Why a Mid-Year Reset Matters

Just like your devices need a restart from time to time, so do your goals and routines. A mid-year reset helps you zoom out and reconnect with the version of yourself that set those intentions back in January.

It’s not about catching up—it's about checking in.

This intentional pause can be the difference between burning out and breaking through. Whether you’re craving clarity, motivation, or simply a fresh perspective, this five-step reset strategy can help you get unstuck and move forward again.

1. Sit in the Stuck

First, don’t rush to push past the stuckness. It may feel uncomfortable, but sitting with your current emotions can reveal what you need most. This step is about honoring where you are without judgment. By pausing and reflecting, you begin to loosen the grip that feeling stuck can have—and make room for new momentum to grow.

Reflection Questions:

  • What feels heavy right now?

  • What areas of my life feel unclear or unsettled?

  • What do I need more of?

  • What do I want less of?

2. Create a Safe Space to Reflect

Before diving into action, make sure you’re grounded. That could mean intentional journaling time in a quiet place with your favorite music, going on a solo walk, or speaking with someone you trust. The goal is to get quiet enough to hear your own voice. Feeling safe—physically and emotionally—gives your nervous system the room to reset, so your goals can come from a place of hope, not pressure.

Reflection Questions:

  • Where do I feel most at home or at peace?

  • What helps me feel emotionally safe and grounded?

  • When was the last time I truly listened to my own thoughts?

  • Who or what helps me reconnect with myself?

3. Set a Goal That Makes You Feel Safe

Now that you’re more at ease, consider what kind of goal would make you feel secure or empowered in this season. Maybe it’s saving a certain amount of money, setting boundaries in your schedule, or creating a consistent self-care habit. Pursuing a goal that brings a sense of stability can feel incredibly motivating—especially when you realize you have agency to create change, even if it’s small. Empowerment begins with choosing what you want to move toward, not just what you want to get away from.

Reflection Questions:

  • What kind of goal would help me feel more secure or supported right now?

  • What part of my life do I want to stabilize?

  • What do I want to move toward?

  • What small change would help me feel more in control?

4. Begin with Just One Goal

When you’re feeling overwhelmed or behind, the best thing you can do is start small. Choose one goal that feels manageable and meaningful. We recommend using the Passion Roadmap to visualize where you want to go, then break that big vision down into smaller, bite-sized steps. Starting with one goal doesn’t mean you’re thinking small—it means you’re choosing sustainable, focused progress.

Reflection Questions:

  • What is one meaningful goal I want to focus on this season?

  • What’s something I can realistically work toward right now?

  • What’s my “why” behind this goal?

  • How would reaching this goal make me feel?

5. Embrace Baby Steps

Once you’ve set a goal, commit to the babiest of baby steps. One task. One habit. One 10-minute effort at a time. This allows you to shift your attention from focusing on how far you have to go, to anchoring yourself in what you can do today. Little wins build momentum, which in turn creates routines that actually stick.

Reflection Questions:

  • What’s one small step I can take today?

  • Where can I simplify my next move?

  • How can I celebrate small wins along the way?

  • What daily habit could support this goal?

6. See Setbacks as Rest Stops

Every journey has pauses. Setbacks aren’t a sign of failure—they’re a chance to regroup, recharge, and remind yourself why you started. If life throws you off track, treat it like a rest stop, not a dead end. Reflect, adjust, and rejoin your path when you’re ready. A reset isn’t about perfection—it’s about gentle recommitment.

Reflection Questions:

  • What did I learn from my most recent setback?

  • How can I reframe this pause as part of the process?

  • What do I need to move forward again?

  • What reminder would help me stay grounded right now?
